Dexter - "What's Eating Dexter Morgan?" - Episode 3

What's Eating Dexter Morgan? --

This was a great episode and makes it three in a row for the Season 8 finale. Everything seems to be getting done perfectly, like they want to go out in style. They're going the right way about it. There were some great scenes where the unthinkable almost happens. Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is trying his best to sort things out with Debs (Jennifer Carpenter) and he has Dr. Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling) trying to persuade him he's the perfect psychopath. The writing is tight with everything playing out as intended. The direction from The Walking Dead director, Ernest R. Dickerson, is spot on, as he guides the cast to really put it out there. Similar to last episode (2), Debs has some powerful scenes and is really applying herself in this finale.

Dex wakes up to a noise that sounds like a child calling out. He gets up to investigate and finds Harrison covered in red liquid that resembles blood. It turns out to be from eating popsicles. Deb is found in her car, drunk as can be. She's hit a parking meter, so the cop takes her to the police station where she calls Quinn (Desmond Harrington). Quinn lies to Jamie Batista (Aimee Garcia) about where he's going and heads straight out to help Debs. He talks the cops into letting her go but he's really worried about her behaviour.

Dex attends a crime scene where he finds the body of a man he knows to be a victim, and not the Brain Surgeon seriel killer, as everyone else suspects he is, but Dex knows differently. He is told about the DUI charge Debs almost recieved, so goes to her job to check on her. She isn't happy to see him but reluctantly agrees to go to dinner with him later that night.

Vogel receives two more packages containing his and hers glasses, each containing brain matter, so tells Dexter about it. He goes to a health club to check on a possible suspect from Dr Vogel's patient list, but is he the right guy? Vogel asks Dexter why he cares about Deb, but the best he can come up with is, he likes having beer and stakes with her. Vogel tells him he is absolutely perfect the way he is, a perfect psychopath who can't really love, but can give the appearance of it. Dexter doesn't agree, and insists he loves Deborah.

Debs goes to the police station, absolutely smashed on booze, but she staggers in and is spotted in time by Quinn. After a disbelieving conversation, Quinn hands her a pad and tells her to write everything down, but what could it possibly be that she has to tell Quinn? Dr Vogel is looking after an unconscious Debs, as she's told Dexter she can handle her. Dexter handcuffs her to the frame, warning Vogel to be careful as she doesn't know what Deborah is capable of. I know this is gonna be as good as, if not better than the first season, where we had our hero track down the Ice Truck Killer, which was filled with twists and surprises. This looks no different, as we find out everything might just not be as it seems, and not everyone is being honest.
