(Spoiler Warning) Well, I've managed to be shocked by every season finale of this show , but never to this extent. I swore continually while Jon Snow was being stabbed, hoping Ghost would appear in the nick of time to save his master. However, like the Unsullied were with Daenerys last week while she was under attack, he wasn't there when needed the most.
And, of course, Jon wasn't the only major character to get bumped off. Or reanimated! Stannis is either dead at the hands of Brienne, or she actually struck the tree with her sword, although it's highly unlikely.

The fate of another not-so-major character was also sealed with a poisonous kiss, when Ellaria Sand said goodbye to Princess Myrcella. I actually guessed that's what Ellaria was doing as soon as I saw her kissing Myrcella like that. And how tragic, just when she learns that Jaime is really her father. Talk about a kick in the ... At this rate, there won't be anyone left that matters by season 7!
I'd hoped that Theon would finally come to the assistance of Sansa, and he did it with style, finally breaking free of Ramsey's spell. I enjoyed seeing Myranda falling to her death at the hands of Theon -- well, what's left of his hands -- after she threatens Sansa with a bow and arrow to prevent Sansa from fleeing. I wonder if Sansa will now realize that Littlefinger was simply using her -- and everybody else for that matter, and maybe do something about it.

Seeing Syrio Forel during the intro gave a strong hint to what was about to befall number 1 on Arya's oft repeated hit-list. She certainly came through with Ser Meryn Trant, as she used certain skills she'd learned from Jaqen H'ghar, and hid her true face until it was too late for Trant to defend himself. Stabbing out his eyes before stabbing him umpteen more times, followed by an explanation of why he was being killed, before slitting his throat. But it got more interesting when she returned to the House of Black and White. Jaqen H'gar toyed with Arya before leaving her blind, which could have had something to do with her -- not only killing the wrong man and owing the Many-Faced God a life -- but for killing Trant the way she did when she stabbed out his eyes.
Cersei Lannister had it rough after she confessed about "fornicating" with Lancel Lannister. For just that one crime, Cersei was subjected to being scrubbed, having all her hair chopped off, then walked naked through the streets of King's Landing all the way to her keep. I expected far worse to happen to Cersei other than being covered in shit and spat on by the crowd. It doesn't take a genius to work out who the newest member of the King's Guard is -- none other than Ser Frankenstein Clegane. I'm sure he'll do some damage next season.
This finale must surely go down as the best yet. But I may have said that before!Share:
